Connect with Design Informatics at the University of Edinburgh this Easter

Posted: 27th March 2025

The Institute for Design Informatics, University of Edinburgh, invite Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce members to join us throughout the Edinburgh Science Festival this April for opportunities to see inspiring work exploring the future of data, AI and design. We regularly work with industry partners and welcome new collaborations and our Science Festival events are an opportunity to see the kind of work we do and connect with our students and researchers.

Join our Design Informatics masters students for this immersive showcase of creative responses and prototypes, that reflect on human (and beyond human) experiences of the future. Delve into the intersections of technology, data, living, and non-living entities, and witness the fusion of digital, virtual, and artificial with sustainable innovation.

Highlights include:

  • Interactive installations that examine limits and boundaries of our systems
  • Exhibits where design fiction meets science communication
  • Ethical and critically reflective projects poised to drive social good

AI for All: Designing Responsibly

Date: Fri 11 April 2025
Time: 10am – 4pm | Free / Drop-In
Location: Edinburgh Futures Institute, 1 Lauriston Pl, Edinburgh EH3 9EF https://www.edinburghscience.co.uk/event/ai-for-all-designing-responsibly/

Natural Language Processing (NLP) is an area of AI underpinning technologies we use every day, including personalisation systems, voice assistants, translation tools and generative AI, such as ChatGPT. But how do we make these systems work best for humans, and ensure they are fair, accountable and transparent? Join us for a drop-in festival of exhibits, hands on activities and an opportunity to meet the next generation of researchers from the Designing Responsible NLP Centre for Doctoral Training, sharing their work and ideas of how we design and build a more responsible future.

Join us this April at Inspace and EFI to find out more, explore inspiring work, and connect with the Institute for Design Informatics. For more information email: designinformatics@ed.ac.uk.
