Leuchie Firewalk barefoot

It was the hottest fundraising event of the year as Leuchie House raised over £5,000. Thanks to the brave volunteers who signed up for the firewalk challenge which took place at Leuchie on Friday 17th October

Each of the participants had raised at least £180 to take part in the event, which was organised by firewalking experts Blaze, who hosted a training session to prepare the fundraisers for the challenge.

One of the brave soles who walked 20ft across burning embers was Jo Yates, Leuchie House’s bookings & marketing officer, who said after the firewalk: “It was an exhilarating experience. Once you get the adrenaline going and get walking, it’s incredibly empowering. And I’m so pleased to have been able to raise money for Leuchie while trying something completely different!”

Leuchie House is the only place in Scotland and the north of England offering quality respite breaks with 24-hour expert nursing care. It relies on supporters and fundraisers to enable this work for people and their families living with conditions such as Multiple Sclerosis, stroke, Huntington’s Disease, Parkinson’s, Motor Neurone Disease and cerebral palsy.

Mairi O’Keefe, the CEO at Leuchie, said after the firewalk: “I can’t believe what people are willing to do in the name of Leuchie! We are so grateful to everyone who took part in the firewalk challenge. It was a great night and a great fundraising effort by all concerned.”

Cookery demonstration aiming to teach city students how to cook

Edinburgh student property management and lettings specialist Cullen Property, who specialise in HMO properties, has teamed up with award-winning restaurant Mamma’s pizzeria to teach students how to cook some of their favourite dishes. The event will be taking place on 23 October 2014 from 4.30pm – 6.30pm at Mamma’s in the Grassmarket.

The event is aimed at students who have recently moved away from home and want to learn how to cook for themselves. They will learn how to cook their very own pizza, burger and Banoffee Pie, including traditional and healthy versions. Cullen Property will hand out goodie bags at the event and a follow-up competition will be held for attendees who create the best dish with an exclusive prize that will be announced on the night.

Steve Coyle, Cullen Property Operations Director, said: “Most of our tenants are students and they often tell us that after they have moved into their first flat they wish they knew how to cook for themselves. So we thought, what better way to help freshers settle in than providing cooking skills and knowledge?”

Spaces at the event are limited and need to be booked in advance, on a first come, first served basis. Tickets cost £5 and are available from hazel@cullenproperty.com.

HERE’S WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT BRAD:
“I took my whole team to see Brad in Manchester at Old Trafford. Everyone. The guy’s a genius and a brilliant speaker. We went up in a minibus and on the way there were grumbles about having to be at a work event in the evening. On the way back it was amazing. They just talked about what they’d heard and how they could use it in our business. The girls all wanted to marry him. The guys all wanted to know when we could get started on some more of this stuff. It didn’t stop until we got home. Next morning the office was buzzing. That event changed my team and my business. Totally. If you don’t go and see Brad in the small group you’re nuts. Take as many people from your team as you can to see the public seminar. It’s free and they’ll love it.” Jess Scott, owner of Oracle Asbestos
