Balfour Beatty pledges its allegiance to veterans and reservists by re-signing the UK Armed Forces Covenant
Balfour Beatty today announces that it has re-signed the UK Armed Forces Covenant, marking nearly a decade of dedicated support for veterans, reservists, cadet force adult volunteers and their families since the company first pledged its commitment in 2015.
The Armed Forces Covenant provides a framework for businesses in the UK to ensure that veterans, reservists and their partners are treated fairly in the workplace and are fully integrated into the wider community.
At a signing event hosted at the National Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, Balfour Beatty made specific commitments around recruitment and skills development including a pledge to recruit 200 veterans annually from 2025, approximately 10% of the company’s yearly intake of employees in the UK.
The company will also support new joiners’ transition to civilian careers through its Military Talent Pathway, which provides targeted training in key areas such as health and safety and project management.
This latest commitment builds on the launch of Balfour Beatty’s Mulberry Affinity Network earlier this year, recognising the importance of accommodating the needs and requirements of Armed Forces veterans, reservists and their partners to ensure the company is utilising the unique and transferable skill set they bring to the construction and infrastructure industry.
Paul Raby, Group HR Director at Balfour Beatty, said: “Signing the Armed Forces Covenant isn’t just a pledge; it’s a call to action for us to continually enrich our teams with the diverse talents veterans and reservists bring. We have seen firsthand the leadership, resilience, and technical expertise they contribute to our business, and are committed to providing not only a supportive workplace but a thriving pathway for career growth.
“By fostering a strong Armed Forces community and utilising their skills, we’re building a future where these remarkable individuals are central to the legacy of the infrastructure projects that serve the UK.”
Phillip Marks, National Account Manager at Defence Relationship Management, said: “The Armed Forces Covenant is a commitment to support those who have served and their families, ensuring they are valued within the workplace and wider society. Balfour Beatty’s long-standing dedication to the Armed Forces community demonstrates their commitment to honouring and supporting veterans and their families. By re-signing the Covenant, Balfour Beatty reinforces its historic pledge, extending new opportunities and career pathways for service personnel transitioning to civilian life. We thank Balfour Beatty for their steadfast support and their continued efforts to foster a respectful, inclusive environment where the unique skills of the Armed Forces community can thrive.”
The re-signing of the Armed Forces Covenant follows a parade organised by Balfour Beatty which saw over 60 employees from across the UK come together to honour those who have served in the Armed Forces and to mark Remembrance Day.
