Burges Salmon guides battery storage start-up through the next stage of its growth

Posted: 4th January 2024

The firm has advised Scotland-based LIND on funding to scale-up commercialisation of its battery technology

Independent UK law firm Burges Salmon has advised LIND Limited, a pioneer in alternative battery storage systems, on the £900,000 seed investment it secured from Green Angel Ventures, Scottish Enterprise and the University of Strathclyde.

The funding will help drive LIND’s innovation efforts and support the commercialisation of its groundbreaking technology. Founded in 2019, and headquartered in Kinross, just north of Edinburgh, LIND’s experts have developed new battery storage systems, with impressive lifespans of over 20 years and engineered to excel at hot temperatures, offering a non-toxic and scalable solution for domestic households and large industrial applications.

The Edinburgh-based Burges Salmon team advising LIND on the transaction was led by associate Niall Mackle and partner Danny Lee from the firm’s Corporate and M&A team.

Niall Mackle comments: “LIND is a very impressive greentech start-up with a clear commitment to roll out its battery technology to reduce carbon emissions and help thousands of customers with their energy bill costs. We’re very pleased to have guided LIND through this fundraising which will support the transformation of the business as it grows and scales up its operations across Scotland.”

Jamie Lindsay, Managing Director at LIND says: “The deal is vitally important for us and will ensure we can successfully scale up the technology and focus on rolling it out across the next year and beyond. We’re grateful to Niall and Danny for their ongoing support. Burges Salmon’s track record advising start-ups and its strong understanding of net zero technologies, all means the firm is a perfect fit to be working with us.”

Since it opened its Edinburgh office in May 2019, Burges Salmon has developed a strong presence in Scotland and a growing reputation as a market leading corporate practice. The firm is known for handling high value and complex transactions, and for supporting fast growing companies, combining legal and transactional expertise with sector insight to give tailored solutions to clients.
