Gilson Gray boosts growing Dundee offering with senior litigation hire

Posted: 12th December 2024

Full-service law firm Gilson Gray has strengthened its offering in Dundee with the appointment of Stephen Forsyth.

Stephen joins Gilson Gray as a legal director from MML Law, where he specialised in commercial disputes for more than 13 years – the latter four as a partner. Prior to that, Stephen spent three years with Kirriemuir-based Wilkie & Dundas, working across conveyancing and private client services.

The addition of Stephen adds further expertise in a range of areas to Gilson Gray’s litigation team, including contractual disputes, damages claims, land-based servitudes, debt recovery, and insolvency. It will also allow the firm to expand its personal injury offering across Scotland.

Gilson Gray has cemented its presence in Dundee and Angus in recent years with a series of deals. The firm acquired Bowmans Solicitors earlier in 2024, doubling its footprint at 2 West Marketgait in the process, having also brought Wilson Financial and RS Robertson Financial Planning into the fold of its financial arm, Gilson Gray Financial Management.

Stephen’s appointment takes Gilson Gray’s litigation offering to a headcount of 20, bolstering the existing team of three specialists in Tayside. The firm’s litigation team, headed up by Rosie Walker, has seen significant growth following a number of high-profile case wins, including against the City of Edinburgh Council’s short-term lettings regime, and recently won Litigation Team of the Year at the Herald Law Awards.

Rosie Walker said: “Stephen is well-known in Dundee and Angus and not only strengthens the existing skills we have within the team but adds some new areas of expertise too. He also provides us with greater geographical reach at a time when our division within Gilson Gray is growing at a rapid rate. We are thrilled to have him as part of the firm and look forward to the impact he will make in the city and beyond.”

Stephen Forsyth added: “It’s difficult not to notice Gilson Gray – the firm’s growth has been remarkable over the past 10 years and shows no signs of letting up. In doing my research I could tell our values were similar and I bought into Glen and the board’s vision. It is a great opportunity to join the firm at an exciting time, with a clear plan for delivery and a highly respected existing team in Dundee and across the country.”
