LNER plans extra Great North Run trains

Posted: 5th September 2024

LNER is planning to operate an additional five trains ahead of this year’s Great North Run.

The extra services will provide thousands more seats to help runners and spectators arriving for the popular half marathon, which remains a firm favourite on the sporting calendar.

The additional trains are planned to run on the morning of Sunday 8 September 2024 in addition to the existing timetable, with services between Edinburgh Waverley, Durham, Darlington, Doncaster, Leeds and Newcastle.

The additional train times are:

  • 07:00 from Doncaster, calling at York (07:23), Northallerton (07:43), arriving at Newcastle at 08:23
  • 07:08 from Edinburgh Waverley, calling at Dunbar (07:30), Reston (07:46), Berwick-upon-Tweed (07:58), Alnmouth (08:18), Morpeth (08:33), arriving at Newcastle at 08:48
  • 07:25 from Leeds, calling at York (07:55), arriving at Newcastle at 08:44
  • 07:25 from Darlington, calling at Durham (07:44), arriving at Newcastle at 07:58
  • 07:58 from Darlington, calling at Durham (08:16), arriving at Newcastle at 08:31

We encourage customers to plan and book ahead and reserve a seat as trains are likely to be very popular.

A team of colleagues from LNER will also be taking part in the Great North Run to help raise funds for LNER’s partner charity, the Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM).
