New social enterprise salon on a mission to help families across Edinburgh and the Lothians

Posted: 9th September 2024

St Columba’s Hospice Care has today (Thurs 5 September), proudly announced the grand opening of its new salon, Studio15. This innovative venture aims to deliver top-tier beauty treatments while directly contributing to the well-bring of the community and supporting the hospice’s vital care services across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

Located within the grounds of the Hospice in Trinity, Studio15 is a beauty salon offering a wide range of hair and nail treatments with all profits raised going to hospice care. The opening of the social enterprise business comes ahead of the launch of the charities ambitious three-year Strategic Plan, The strength behind our stories.

Focused on sustainable long-term impact with a view to driving innovation and delivery quality through everything the organisation does, the salon is the first of many ways the charity aims to diversify its income streams to support the creation and development of a more sustainable business model over the coming three years.

Jackie Stone, CEO at St Columba’s Hospice Care, said: “We have spent many months developing our new strategic goals and central to this is creating and delivering a diverse and innovative income generation strategy. Studio15 is an exciting venture which will enable us to continue to provide sustainable hospice care locally now, and in the future.

“By choosing Studio15, customers are directly contributing to a cause that matters – providing compassionate end-of-life care to patients and support for their families. It’s a beautiful and calming space and the team has a wealth of experience; we can’t wait to welcome everyone.”

St Columba’s Hospice Care, a respected local charity known for its comprehensive palliative and end-of-life care offerings across the capital, recognised the need for sustainable funding sources in the face of increasing demand for hospice services. The social enterprise salon is a creative solution that not only addresses this need but also engages the community in a meaningful way.

Jon Heggie, Director of income Generation for St Columba’s Hospice Care, said: “Establishing sustainable revenue streams is vital for the longevity and effectiveness of hospice care. As demand for compassionate end of life services continues to grow, innovative funding solutions ensure we can meet the needs of our patients and their families without compromising the quality of care. Sustainable revenue allows us to focus on what truly matters – providing comfort, dignity and support during life’s most challenging moments.”

Lead by Salon Manager Louise Gray, Studio15 offers a range of treatments from cut, colour and blow drys, for women, men and children, to nail services such as gel, nail art and manicures. Louise, who has over 20 years of experience in the industry, said: “As a hairdresser, I take so much pride in what I do, my priority is delivering exactly what my clients want and ensuring they leave happy and confident. The new studio is wonderful, and I’m delighted to be able to do what I love for such an important cause. Knowing that every penny raised through Studio15 will go back into helping people with life-limiting conditions and their families, makes it even more rewarding.”

In addition to primary its services, Studio15 plans to host special events, workshops and community gatherings, all designed to promote wellness, self-care and community solidarity. Clients can look forward to themed beauty nights, educational seminars and opportunities to meet the hospice care team and learn more about the impact of their work.

The booking site for Studio15 is now live. To celebrate the launch, anyone booking between now and the end of October will receive 15% off their first treatment. To find out more, visit www.studio15.org.uk.
