ScotRail station staff raise more than £3,200 for Age Scotland

Posted: 24th December 2024

Fundraising efforts from ScotRail staff at two stations has seen more than £3,200 donated to the train operator’s official charity partner, Age Scotland.

Staff at Glasgow Queen Street and Aberdeen railway stations raised £3,238 through fundraising activity.

Since the launch of the charity partnership in April 2024, Margaret Hoey, Glasgow Queen Street General Manager, and her hard-working team have raised £1,880 for Age Scotland.

The station’s fundraising activity throughout the year culminated with a raffle draw for three luxury hampers on Christmas Jumper Day (12 December). All items within the hampers were donated by the station team, with all proceeds donated to the train operator’s charity partner.

Recent fundraising activity at Aberdeen station featured a successful craft fayre held over the weekend of Saturday, 7 and Sunday, 8 December, where the proceeds raised by ScotRail were donated to Age Scotland.

The event brought together an impressive variety of independent stalls featuring homemade gifts, jewellery, pottery and ceramics, cakes and sweets, and a range of festive Christmas decorations. Aberdeen station staff ran a raffle, along with a stall to rehome teddy bears.

Adding a creative twist, station staff sold handcrafted ‘bug hotels’ made from recycled ticket rolls, alongside children’s Christmas activity books in the lead up to the event.

The two-day fayre attracted support from local residents and passengers, contributing to the fantastic fundraising total of £1,358.

The funds raised by the stations will support Age Scotland’s initiatives, which aim to combat loneliness, improve well-being, and provide valuable resources for older people across Scotland.

Tracy Stevenson, ScotRail Community Rail Executive, said:

“We are absolutely thrilled with the success of the craft fayre and the incredible fund-raising efforts from our hard-working team at Aberdeen station. We’d like to thank the vendors who joined us, and everyone who helped raise such a fantastic amount.

“The fundraising efforts from our team at Glasgow Queen Street is inspirational. I’m fortunate to work alongside such dedicated people, who have really got onboard with our charity partnership.

“Age Scotland plays a vital role in supporting older people across the country, and we’re proud to contribute to their efforts.”

Stacey Kitzinger, Age Scotland Fundraising Director, said:

“These fun and engaging events showcase some of the very best ways our partnership can have an impact and raise vital funds to support our work. We are delighted to be working together to tackle loneliness and support older people across Scotland.

“The generosity of ScotRail staff, passengers, and the local community means that we will be able to support many more older people who are facing their loneliest time of the year. Every call we take or make on our friendship line has a huge impact on someone’s life and lets them know that we really care.”
