Sidey to Host Career Development Event at Edinburgh Showroom for Liberton High School Students on December 3rd
Sidey is proud to host a unique career development event on December 3rd at its Edinburgh showroom as part of an ongoing partnership with Liberton High School. This event highlights the achievements of eight students participating in a year-long programme designed to provide hands-on training and insights into the construction industry. Led by Donna Montgomery, Sidey’s Community Benefits Manager, the programme gives students the opportunity to learn practical skills including window fabrication, installation and service, using custom built timber training pods.
The December event will celebrate the students’ progress and introduce them to potential career pathways in construction. Attendees will benefit from presentations by industry leaders, including representatives from Bam Nuttall, who will discuss career opportunities in the construction sector, and Iain Fenwick of Scotland Local, who will share his journey of starting a business. Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) will also participate, further supporting and inspiring students as they consider their future careers.
The event will feature a variety of interactive activity stations for students and guests, including window display design, door wreath making, and energy efficiency activities, all designed to showcase the students’ skills and the exciting possibilities in the industry.
“We’re thrilled to be part of a programme that not only equips students with practical skills but also introduces them to a range of career options in a thriving industry,” said Donna Montgomery. “The students in Liberton’s Construction Pathway demonstrate remarkable dedication, and we are committed to helping them build a strong foundation for their future careers.”
Open to the public, the event welcomes parents, local councillors, industry experts, and community members to come and witness the dedication of these young talents. Sidey invites media representatives to attend (12pm-2pm) and support this community initiative that strengthens Edinburgh’s future workforce and promotes sustainable career opportunities in construction.
