Warm Hearts, Warming our Home: How Edinburgh Businesses Can Help Support The Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home This Winter

Posted: 31st October 2024

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has launched its “Warm Hearts, Warming Our Home” Corporate Winter Appeal, calling on businesses, organisations, and community groups to help towards the soaring costs of keeping their animals warm this winter. With energy prices continuing to rise, the Home faces an unprecedented expense of over £22,000 to ensure the animals in its care are comfortable and safe through the colder months.

As a key member of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce, Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is urging the local business community to get involved and make a lasting impact. From one-off donations to team fundraising activities, businesses can play a vital role in ensuring the dogs and cats at the Home stay warm during winter’s harshest weather.

‘Like many organisations, we’re feeling the pressure of the rising cost of living. It’s going to cost us over £22,000 this winter just to provide warmth for the animals in our care,’ said Jay Pearson, Partnerships and Philanthropy Manager at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home. ‘We’re asking businesses of all sizes to join us in this mission to ensure our animals can thrive in a warm, safe environment during the cold months ahead.’

Regardless of the size, local businesses can play a vital role in keeping animals at the Home warm this winter. Whether it’s for a day, a week, or even longer, support can provide the gift of warmth and comfort to the animals in their care.

Donations could help us to:

Keep our animals warm for a day: £185

Keep our animals warm for a week: £1,300

Keep our animals warm for a month: £5,500

Keep our animals warm for the winter: £22,000

Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home has also introduced a variety of fun and engaging ways for businesses to get involved, fostering team spirit while raising essential funds. Some of the initiatives include:

  • Festive Dress-Down Days: A great way to spread holiday cheer while raising money.
  • Cold Dip Challenge: Take a brave plunge into cold waters to support the animals.
  • Pet Food Drives: Encourage your team to host a Pet Food Drive and gather essential supplies for the Home.

These activities not only make a meaningful difference for the animals but also provide excellent opportunities for team building and corporate social responsibility.

The funds raised will go towards supporting animals like Mary, a stray dog who found safety at Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home just in time to give birth to six healthy puppies. Thanks to the warmth and care provided by the Home, Mary and her puppies thrived, and all have since been rehomed. Stories like Mary’s would not be possible without the generosity of supporters.

Get Involved – Edinburgh Dog and Cat Home is calling on the business community to make a difference this winter. Whether through a donation or by participating in one of their engaging fundraising activities, your support will provide the warmth and comfort the animals need.
